About Marc

  Marc Liron - Microsoft MVP

Marc LironMarc has always had a love for technology, it all started when he first began "playing" on a ZX Spectrum in 1982.

But it was in 1994, whilst serving as a medic in the Royal Navy, he "discovered" the Internet - and was instantly hooked!

When Microsoft released Windows XP in 2001, home users were starting to connect to the Internet in large numbers. By then Marc was an IT manager for a charity based in Brighton and could often be found online, in his lunch breaks, supporting newsgroup users with Windows software issues.

In 2003 Marc decided to create a website dedicated to hosting articles on the common Windows XP support issues and so UpdateXP.com was born.

Microsoft spotted his work supporting the online community via his website and newsgroup contributions. This recognition of his technical knowledge and willingness to help others led to him being awarded their Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award - more here.)

Marc gave up his job as an IT manager in the summer of 2004 and has worked full time ever since supporting users of Windows software and services. (However 2009 see Marc expanding his consultancy in UK Local Search).

Working from his home office he regularly tests "beta software" from Microsoft, and with his MSDN and Technet subscriptions can access virtually any server or client operating system for evaluation and review.

In addition he provides consultancy to small businesses looking to understand Social Media Marketing and Traffic strategies, working with online video/audio and search engine optimization.

As well as being an established authority on Windows XP and Windows Vista. Marc has a keen interest in audio and video compression techniques and in 2004 released a small utility for listing installed codecs on a Windows XP computer - SHERLOCK The CODEC Detective. (now over 1 million downloads!)

In 2007 Marc co-created an application for small businesses to utilise the Amazon.com S3 storage network Data Bucket Pro, as well as co-creating the worlds 1st offline utility for creating Google Video Sitemaps (Video Sitemap Pro. - no longer online)

More recently he has released a small utility for listing all system and signed drivers on a Windows Vista computer - SHERLOCK the Driver Detective.

Marc also has many years practical experience as a webmaster and  using online tools such as Google Analytics, Google Adsense and Google Optimizer.

2009 sees the publication of 2 paperback books being written by Marc: "A Guide to Windows Vista Services" and "An Introduction to Windows 7"

In June 2009 Marc also released a new training course on UK Local Search - www.LocalSearchProfits.co.uk and is now offering his services as a UK Local Search Specialist - www.marcliron.co.uk

Sarah LironSarah Liron

Marc is married to Sarah...

They first met at their local church youth group, but their friendship started to grow a few years later after meeting again at a friends Birthday party in 1991.

Sarah was then at Reading University completing her Physics & Maths degree and Marc was based at a Nuclear Submarine base in Scotland. After spending the whole evening talking about sub-atomic physics Marc just new she was the girl for him!!!

They married 5 years later and Sarah has been a long suffering "geeks" wife ever since! She enjoys using technology, is even considering completing her Masters degree in Medial Physics, BUT she has no intention of being labelled a "geek" herself...

They live in the historic town of Lincoln, UK.
